Movie or series: what fits a short evening?
It is 9 pm and you want to finish watching by 10:30. That gives you 90 minutes, but a 90-minute film only fits if you start immediately. Searching, finding the remote and making tea also use that time.
A useful shortlist starts with your finishing time. Genre can come second.
Count backwards from the stop time
Subtract the time you expect to spend choosing and getting ready. If that takes ten minutes, your 90-minute evening leaves 80 minutes for the programme. This is a planning example, not a claim that everyone needs ten minutes.
If Picknado's available runtime filter cannot express your exact limit, choose the next stricter option. Check the provider's runtime before pressing play. Avoid selecting a longer bracket and assuming every result will fit.

A season is not a runtime
A series can mean a 22-minute sitcom, an hour-long drama or episodes with different lengths. The number of seasons tells you none of this. Picknado does not convert a film runtime filter into a promise about episode length.
For two episodes, add their individual lengths. Two 35-minute episodes fit the example's 80-minute window; two 45-minute episodes do not. A longer finale can break a plan based on the first episode, so check the episodes you actually intend to watch.
Decide where to stop before you start
For a series, agree on one episode or a specific episode number. If you want a clear stopping point, turn off next-episode autoplay. Netflix provides this setting per profile; it may need a device refresh to take effect.
A standalone film has a natural end. A series gives you smaller blocks but may leave a story unfinished. Choose the kind of ending you want tonight rather than treating one format as universally better.

Keep the first shortlist small
Set your country and services, then choose film or series. Decide whether horror or another genre is out before drawing suggestions. Check runtimes for the three results and keep only those that fit.
If none fits, change one condition: the genre, the format or the finishing time. Changing all three makes it hard to see what caused the problem. For a group, agree on the finishing time together so the final choice does not depend on who can stay up latest.
